Open House Chicago

The Chicago Architecture Center's free weekend festival opens the doors of more than 200 buildings in over 30 neighborhoods, with 20 new sites this year. No registration is needed; pick your sites and show up during open hours. South Side stops include Bronzeville, Kenwood, Woodlawn, Hyde Park, Pilsen and Beverly.

Open House Chicago is a free weekend when buildings across the city open their doors to the public, many of them places you normally can't walk into. The Chicago Architecture Center runs it, and this year it covers more than 200 sites in over 30 neighborhoods, including 20 that are new for 2026. There's no registration: you pick the places you want to see, check each site's open hours, and show up. On the South Side, the list includes stops in Bronzeville, Kenwood, Woodlawn, Hyde Park, Pilsen and Beverly, from churches and a mosque to artist studios, historic homes and a cemetery. Popular sites can draw lines, so plan a few nearby stops rather than crisscrossing the city. CAC members and festival volunteers get a Priority Pass to skip the line at every site. You can save sites and build itineraries on the festival website after logging in, and after October 1 the Chicago Reader's October issue carries a printed festival guide with a site list and a bingo card. Neighborhood headquarters, including one in North Lawndale and one in Bridgeport, offer restrooms, free wi-fi and staff to answer questions.
