About — The South Side, Done Right

The South Side, Done Right: Our Mission

The South Side is home to the city’s most authentic flavors, the toughest neighborhoods, and a culture that doesn’t quit. But for too long, we haven’t had a spot that actually highlights what we’ve got. That’s why I built chicagoroute.com.

More Than Just a Directory

Look, I’m not trying to build another phone book. I’m building a hub. From Pilsen to Oak Lawn, we’re here to connect the people who actually live here with the local businesses that keep our neighborhoods running. When you support local, you’re not just spending money — you’re building something.

Whether you need a plumber who actually shows up, the best spot to grab a bite, or the scoop on a local festival, we’ve got you. We’re starting here at home, and as we build this up, we’re going to take this same energy to the West Side, the North Side, and downtown.

A Different Way to Review: Real Talk Only

I’m flipping the script on the big review sites. We aren’t doing the “bulk-star” fraud you see elsewhere. We’re built on quality, transparency, and reputation.

  • The Chicago Flag System: We use a 4-star system inspired by our flag. We’re going to be honest — a 1-star is a fair review for a bad day, but if a business has zero stars on my site, that’s a red flag. We only feature quality. If you don’t keep your reputation up, your exposure on The Route is going to go down.
  • The “Party” Review (Vetted): I’m not interested in one-person keyboard warriors dumping empty stars. Our review form is vetted. You’ve got to tell us how many people were at your table, what you actually ate, and what the experience was really like. This keeps it authentic and proves you were actually there.
  • Specialized Ratings: Different neighborhoods need different things. In places like Chinatown, we feature a “chopstick rating” — one chopstick per person in your party — to help you find those “I’m definitely coming back” spots.

Join the Route

I’m building this to be a fair playing field for businesses and a real resource for the people. As we grow, I want your feedback on the businesses and events you hit up. You can even catch live scoreboards for our teams and link up to the radio while you browse.

This is our city, our neighborhood, and our directory. Let’s build it through quality, together.
