Crosstown Classic 2026: The Sox Head North, Aug 17–19

The rivalry that splits this city down the middle is back for round two. After the White Sox hosted the Cubs at Rate Field in May — and took the series — the North Siders return the favor this week. The Sox roll up to Wrigley Field for three games, Monday through Wednesday, August 17–19. Bragging rights, a packed ballpark, and a whole city picking sides. This is the good stuff.

Here’s everything you need to catch it.

The schedule

All three games are at Wrigley Field, with the Cubs as the home team and the White Sox visiting:

  • Monday, Aug 17 — 7:05 PM CT
  • Tuesday, Aug 18 — 7:05 PM CT
  • Wednesday, Aug 19 — 1:20 PM CT (get-away day — a rare weekday afternoon game)

That Wednesday matinee is the one to plan around if you want to actually be there without burning a whole night.

The Sox take their first-place act north this week — three games in the Friendly Confines.

How to watch

Locally, these games land on the teams’ home networks — the Cubs on Marquee Sports Network and the White Sox on CHSN (Chicago Sports Network) — so which feed you get depends on your provider and which side you root for. National broadcast and streaming details for a rivalry series can shift right up to game day, so double-check your listings (and MLB.tv blackout rules apply in the Chicago market). Bottom line: if you’ve got a Chicago sports package or you’re posted up at a bar with the right channels, you won’t miss a pitch.

Where to watch it on the South Side

Not making it to Wrigley? The South Side doesn’t need to travel north to throw a watch party. Sox territory bars from Bridgeport to Beverly to Bronzeville will have every game on, cold ones poured and the trash talk flowing. If you want a spot where the crowd actually cares who wins — the kind of place that erupts on a Sox home run in enemy territory — that’s a South Side sports bar on a Crosstown night.

Find one near you on The Route’s directory — browse local bars and grills and pick your battle station for the series.

Under the lights on 35th — bring that same energy to your Crosstown watch party.

Getting to Wrigley from the South Side

If you’re going up for it, skip the parking headache. The CTA Red Line runs straight up from the South Side to the Addison stop, which drops you a block from the gates — the single easiest way to get to Wrigley on a game night. Give yourself extra time on the 7:05 games; the platform gets shoulder-to-shoulder before first pitch.

Why it matters

Cubs–Sox isn’t about the standings — it’s about the city. Coworkers who won’t talk to each other for a week, group chats that turn into war zones, and a Red Line car that’s half blue-pinstripe, half black-and-white. Whoever takes the series at Wrigley owns the summer. The Sox would love nothing more than to spoil it in the Friendly Confines.

Three games. One city. Pick a side and don’t back down.
